Mediazione Giovani 2024/2025

The project 'Mediazione Giovani' is based on developing: knowledge and creativity, cooperation and participation, responsibility and action. The third edition of the Mediazione Giovani urban culture workshops involved all the Cantonal secondary schools (Licei) and the Cantonal School of Commerce. 

Over 750 students developed their visions for the future of the territory, with proposals for urban regeneration and the mitigation of urban heat islands.

Through theoretical lessons on planning and territorial regeneration tools currently in use in the areas surrounding the various schools, students acquired interdisciplinary knowledge supplementary to the geography curriculum for third-year secondary school students and second-year students at the Cantonal School of Commerce.

At each school, the workshop programme included site visits for every class, to study areas selected in collaboration with teachers and the relevant municipalities. Through the explanations provided by tutors during these visits, students developed a critical and systemic spirit of observation towards their surrounding environment — that is, the ability to relate what they observed to its context and to analyse it in order to grasp the links and interactions with the interdisciplinary knowledge acquired during the theoretical lessons.

In the classroom, students worked in groups to develop their urban regeneration proposals for the spaces they had observed, thereby developing skills in collaboration, dialogue and negotiation to reach compromises that would satisfy every member of their working group. The proposals developed by each group had to be grounded in reasoning about the strengths and weaknesses of the observed spaces, transforming critical issues into constructive proposals, with a view to sustainability and adaptation to climate change.

The proposals were presented during final plenary sessions, which involved active discussion with professionals responsible for territorial management and development — constituting a process of information-sharing and active civic participation, and empowering students in their role as citizens and, therefore, agents of territorial transformation.
