Spunti per il futuro del nostro territorio (Insights for the future of our territory)

From 4 to 5 October 2024, Istituto Internazionale di Architettura opened the doors of Villa Saroli to design professionals and the general public, hosting the  edition of the 5th biennale svizzera del territorio: Back to the future.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Territorial Development Section of the Department of the Territory, the biennale offered a diverse range of people the opportunity to explore, reflect and discuss the places we live in, re-imagining the future of our built environment.

Saturday 5 October was brought to life by activities and moments of dialogue designed to strengthen the bond between citizens and their territory. The morning featured an open walk, enriched by contributions from guests from different disciplines. In the afternoon, the workshop Spunti per il futuro del nostro territorio (Insights for the future of our territory) brought together over 40 residents to develop visions around the expectations and needs of future inhabitants of Canton Ticino.

The day concluded with the round table Quale futuro per il nostro territorio (What future for our territory), hosted by the Italian Consulate General in Lugano, where various specialists discussed the transformations of the Ticino territory and the outcomes of the walk and workshop.

The ideas, dialogues and shared perceptions that emerged from this day have been gathered in a publication offering insights and possible solutions to the challenges that territorial planning is called upon to address.

"This intense day and this report represent moments of awareness and sharing, free from institutional and procedural constraints, of living in the territory. At the same time, they constitute opportunities to be cultivated in order to generate a virtuous circle, leading to renewal in the ways of approaching participatory processes and in conceiving practicable and immediate solutions — even if small in scale — of great effectiveness."

Nicola Klainguti, Head of the sviluppo territoriale section, Canton Ticino
