LE CHANTIER

Cinema Iride, Lugano

Wednesday 25 November, 8.15 pm
Cinema Otello, Ascona

Pathé Films, in collaboration with Istituto Internazionale di Architettura, presents the film «LE CHANTIER» by Jean-Stéphane Bron in Lugano and Ascona.

Over three years, Jean-Stéphane Bron followed the building site of the Pathé Palace in Paris: the renovation of a historic cinema designed by Renzo Piano and commissioned by the Pathé group, led by producer Jérôme Seydoux.

The documentary tells the story of an exceptional architectural venture and, at the same time, portrays a small community brought together by a shared goal: building cinemas for the century to come. Against the backdrop of cinema, Bron observes the world of work, with its hierarchies and roles: from the architect to the apprentice bricklayers, from the site manager to the head of the Pathé group, from the sound system designer to the future projectionists.

The screenings will be followed by a conversation with the director.

A Swiss director and screenwriter, Jean-Stéphane Bron is known for his political documentaries, in which he experiments with original narrative forms, often gaining access to places usually closed to the public. His films include «Le Génie helvétique» (2003), «Cleveland contre Wall Street» (2010), «L’Expérience Blocher» (2013) and «L’Opéra» (2017). «The Deal» (2025), co-written with Alice Winocour, is his first fiction series.
