Mediazione Giovani: Isole d’estate 2026

The Laboratori di Cultura Urbana Mediazione Giovani, conceived by Istituto Internazionale di Architettura, involved over 61 classes from the Cantonal High Schools and the Cantonal School of Commerce between 2019 and 2025.
In the 2025/2026 edition, the workshop actively engaged the students of the Scuola d'Arti e Mestieri – sezione disegno del Centro Professionale Tecnico Trevano-Lugano – in developing proposals for the regeneration of public space, through the design of Isole d'estate: ephemeral installations capable of responding to the contemporary challenges of our territory. The workshops aim in particular to raise public awareness of the effects of climate change in urban environments, such as the formation of heat islands, stimulating temporary and adaptive solutions to improve environmental comfort and the liveability of open spaces.
A final plenary will be held on May 29, 2026, at Villa Ciani, during which the students will present their proposals for public space regeneration.

The Isole d'estate, designed during the workshops with the support of Coop Cultura, in collaboration with DPAM-City of Lugano and Lugano Convention & Exhibition, will be installed in ephemeral form in Piazza Castello and the Loreto district in Lugano as part of the Longlake Festival 2026 program, with the support of Veragouth e Xilema.
