The highway stop of La Gruyère was conceived with a postmodern vernacular approach: A masonry base is topped with a timber pitch roof. The transformation of the facilities is camouflaged by a mirror-polished stainless-steel façade, evading the addition of new architectural materials to the heterogenic ensemble. The mirror creates a playful space underneath the canopy, which tends to blur the physical limit of the doors with the landscape. The reflection reveals the asymmetric structure, completing the diagonal timber beams into a symmetric floating roof.
